Discovery walks*
Discover the hidden treasures in and around Clophill with one of our 5 seven mile discovery trails or a short 2 mile heritage trail. All with children’s activities and treasure hunts for those younger walkers or those just ‘young at heart’. There’s something for each season:
Wildflowers – snowdrops in February; daffodils in March; bluebells in May; poppies in August.
Birds of prey – kestrels in July; red kites, barn owls and buzzards from March.
Abundant butterflies and other insects in April, May and June.
Fantastic fungi in September and October.
*Self-led adventure
Discovery walks are self-led adventures. They will therefore not feature in our What’s on when events calendar but may be arranged for your group by contacting us directly. We’ll require a small, non-refundable deposit from a minimum of 6 people in order to confirm your booking.
How does it work?
Walkers meet at the Eco Lodges where they may leave cars and overnight bags.
Day 1
7.30am start. A mini bus will transport walkers to Leighton Buzzard for the start of the walk. Approx 12 miles walk then lunch at the Green Man Pub in Eversholt.
Continue walking to Clophill Eco Lodges for dinner and overnight stay.
Sports massages will also be available during the evening.
Day 2
Breakfast at the Clophill Eco Lodges. Approx 10 miles walk then lunch at the Crown in Northill. Continue walking to the end of the walk in Gamlingay Cinques.
Tea & cake (provided at the Ecohub) and then a minibus back to Clophill Eco Lodges.
Cost: £175* per person for a two-day walk (1 night) including minibus transfers.
The price covers two meals on Day 1, a fully cooked breakfast and packed lunch on Day 2, an overnight stay, a goody bag including snacks and a drinks bottle and a qualified guide for the whole walk. Minimum of 6 participants.
*A post-exercise massage is an optional extra which needs to be pre-booked but will be offered at a price of £14 for a 15 min treatment.
Notes
There are many variations:
– Meals could be picnic style rather than a pub stop.
– The weekend can be for regular walkers, Nordic walkers or other groups.
– The walk can be spread over three days (or longer) and two nights to reduce the daily mileage, though this will incur additional cost. Please contact us with your requirements so that we may personalise your itinerary and provide you with a no-obligation estimate.
– The GRW also interlinks with other trails such as the Bunyan Trail so other weekend options are possible, again using the Clophill Eco Lodge as a stop-over point.
